Network Hiccup (N/A)

resolved

Description

Update @00:47:
Whilst this work took a little longer than expected, we're now back to normal (and improved) service.

Update @23:50:
This work will be happening in 10 minutes.

14/06/2010:
Following the Saturday evening's issues, we're having to schedule to have a further short period of disruption between data centres at very short notice. The work is scheduled to start by our providers at 00:00 BST.

For the most part, all routers will fail-over to their own routes and any disruption will be very minimal.

After this work, we should have better performance between the two data centres and far less chance of any outages/problems in the future.

12/06/2010: We've just experienced a small (partial) outage between data centres that has been traced back to a fault with our providers. We'll be taking the matter up with them as soon as possible. Thankfully the current issue appears to be resolved already, however.

Network maintenance reminder (network wide)

resolved

Description

The network maintenance window is now over. All work was completed as planned, with fairly minimal disruption to traffic.

Any customers that may be experiencing connection difficulties are urged to contact support as soon as possible.

For anyone watching, this work will be starting in approximately 5 minutes time.

As a reminder to all customers on Friday 11th of June, between 03:00 and 07:00 BST, we will be conducting some required network maintenance across our edge routers. Please note that this will not be one, solid 4-hour outage, but a series of smaller interruptions within the period.

The four edge routers will all need to be patched with new configurations during the maintenance window. The patching will be done router by router, in order to minimise any disruption to customer traffic.

As 34SP.com operates multiple BGP sessions to multiple, independent carriers, the loss of a single router's transit is not catastrophic and routing will be distributed between available routers automatically with only a short delay.

However, any customers whom have backups requiring reliable communications to a target outside of our network (i.e. off-site backups) are strongly advised to re-schedule their backups to finish before 03:00 BST or begin after 07:00 BST as the fail-over between routers will not be completely seamless.

For any further questions that you may have regarding this work, please contact the 34SP.com Support team via e-mail.
